Promotions!

A friend was sharing with me recently about promoting one of the people he works with. He was walking me through the ins and outs of his organization. I really enjoy talking about leadership and strategies with guys that have been successful in the marketplace. So much of what they do translates into leadership inside the church. “Promoting one of my people is the greatest and most rewarding thing I get to do”. You could hear that passion in his voice…it was a win, a big win for him.
As I thought through this, God reminded me how much He enjoys promoting “his people” - handing them a new job, moving them into a different home, or bringing that someone special into their life is something that He loves to do. I remember at my Grandfather’s funeral several years back, this elderly preacher said that “John had been promoted” (I’m named after Grandpa) and it sounded odd to me. Sounded odd until I heard what my friend shared this week. You see, God was ready to see one of his saints. He had waited long enough and it was time for the ultimate promotion…heaven! Isn’t it ironic that in our human eyes we see people who are promoted quickly in the marketplace as being on the fast track, yet when someone we love crosses over to the other side we feel as if they “lost out” on life. Imagine our great God in heaven and he just can’t wait any more…He says, “I have to have that person home with me…its time for them to “relocate”. It makes me see things just a little more differently. No, I’m not going to pray for a “promotion” this week, but I am smiling as I write this knowing that God is preparing a home for me.

John - I just read your latest Blog. It meant a lot today as Kelly and I are reflecting on the fact that Sharon was "Promoted" one year ago.
Although there are more miles between us, know that your insights and leadership continue to reach and help us.
