Starving Jesus

I dove in to a new book last night called “Starving Jesus” by Craig Gross and J.R. Mahon. I ended up reading until about 3:00 AM. It is an inspiring read from a couple of guys that I can really relate to. One of the things that jumped out at me was this quote, “The biggest problem with Christians isn’t about filling the pews or worrying about the next big series campaign. Honesty- that’s the church’s number one struggle”. “The problem is, confession comes very slowly to the American church. We are only honest when we get caught”.

There is so much truth to that. Unfortunately, we don’t hear about stuff until is hits the fan and somebody is in trouble. Imagine a church where we can be real. We are getting there but have so far to go…myself included.

Spiritually this has been a good week for me. God was busting on me hard while I was reading this book. I needed a wake up call this week and I guess you could say I got it. How that translates next week we will see. I’m looking forward to being home with my family tomorrow and seeing you at Fellowship Sunday. For my pastor friends you guys have to get this book. It will rock you.

That's really funny! I just bought this book last week! It really is an awesome book. There's a chapter on being "Born Again Lazy". The chapter starts with James 1:22-25 and then continues..."James knew one thing about Christians. We love to talk, but we don't necessarily like to get up, out and get it done. It's one thing to proclaim Christ on Sunday morning; it's another to get wrapped up in your next-door neighbor's life on any given day and ask about his or her faith."

Wow, how true this is. It's definitely a challenging book and really what Fellowship is all about.

Now that you have an Amazon.com book review....

John,
Missy and I have just found your blog and we both have read it from the very beginning. We both are very excited for you and your church. What the Lord is doing sounds absolutely amazing.
We are sorry to hear about your dad's cancer. We will be praying for him and your family. I understand where you are at. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October.
Once again, we are so excited to read about the happenings at Fellowship.
We love and miss you all very much.
