I have been preparing this week for our new series in Fusion titled “Hooked”. It is one of those series that even as the speaker it keeps me on my toes. God continually shows me flaws in my character that need to be improved upon or tweaked to be more like Him. Sadly there are a lot of those areas that we all have. One passage of scripture that popped out to me when preparing was Matthew 26:41, “Stay alert; be in prayer so you don’t wander into temptation without even knowing you’re in danger.” I love how vivid the Bible can be.
This last week as I was forced to slow down for a little while I spent a more than usual amount of time in prayer, not to keep from wandering into temptation but for my health. Reading this verse and preparing for this message shows me that we can be wandering into temptation and not even know we’re in danger. I’m reminded of the song from Top Gun about the danger zone and how quickly something can change.
Staying alert means we need to stay focused or in some cases get focused. I am humbled daily about the position I have of working with teenagers. Are you challenged like I am to stay alert? Are you in prayer for yourself or perhaps your students? Are you praying that those of Fellowship will not wander into temptation? What a challenge from Matthew who tells us to be on our guard. I challenge you this week to pray for our staff, adult leaders that serve in all ministries and yourself that we would all strive for holiness and avoid the danger zone.
