I’m thinking today of the people who put their lives on the line to serve the public. I read just a little while ago that Officer Charles Cassidy, the Philadelphia policeman shot during a robbery yesterday died this morning. Cassidy, 54, a married father of three, was shot during a robbery yesterday at the Dunkin' Donuts in West Oak Lane. The robber who shot Cassidy escaped with nothing. Cassidy was the third police officer in Philadelphia to be shot this week and the second within 12 hours. Cassidy was a 25 year veteran and just like that he is gone. What a senseless tragedy.
This world can be a tough place. Imagine the chaos if we didn’t have people like Charles Cassidy who put themselves out there to keep us safe. Fellowship is blessed to have several police officers that serve our region. Bob Kilmer, who leads our pastoral care and prayer ministry, is a police chaplain that ministers to the law enforcement community.
I take for granted that if I need help or my family is in danger that I can pick up the phone and call for help. We probably all do if the truth is known. I just want to say thanks today to those that serve. We don't say it enough. You are the best.
