Motives

I was reading in John 2:24-25 today where John makes the point that Jesus didn’t get too excited over some of his new followers/fan club because he understood “human nature.” It took me back to a conversation I had earlier in the day with a friend about motives. He was concerned that his motives weren’t pure in something that he was doing for someone else. I told him there was no way his motives were pure, but do it anyway. Think about it…if we have to wait until our motives are pure to obey God, or do an act of kindness for someone we will never get off the starting line.

Hello! We are sinful people. We all fall short. ALL OF US! In heaven I will have pure motives – I can’t wait. For now, God is teaching me and redeeming my thoughts and motives as I go forward in this journey. Sure we can absolutely do something with the wrong motive – I get that. I am learning to give my “twisted motives” to Jesus. Just put it out there for him because he knows my nature anyway. It is not as if I am explaining to him something he doesn’t already know. It is amazing how the peace comes after I give it over to Jesus. When we remind Jesus of our weakness he has a way of reminding us of his strength.

I believe this too and have debated this very issue. I also believe God will reward our obedience if we do things just b/c we know they are right...regardless of whether we want to or not!

Obedience brings blessing - it doesn't mean it's easy buy it does bring blessing. Thanks Kathleen.
